Even though Yellow Warblers are common in our area I always find myself delighted when they arrive in the spring. They are inquisitive, sometimes cheeky and easy to spot amongst the early spring growth. I wanted to keep this painting simple with minimum distractions. The beauty of these small harbingers of spring speaks for itself.

This painting of a Red-tailed Hawk protecting it's catch was inspired by daily sightings of these spectacular birds in our neighborhood.
Through the winter they've been snacking on a excess of field voles and we often see them soaring over the house and pond or perching high on the neighbor's pergola where they can get a good look at the terrain. As spring approaches we're seeing them more often and we hope we'll have another good year for hatchlings!

This painting was done from an original photograph taken by Sharon Johnson.
This young Clydesdale appears to be waiting at the paddock gate - maybe in anticipation of a day's work in the fields. What drew me to Sharon's photograph was the muted, earthy colours of the barn, paddock fence and of course the Clydesdale.
